His extensive background in reading spans a rich variety of genres—poetry, humor, academic literature, drama, action, religion, and science fiction—giving him a uniquely broad perspective that informs both his teaching and his storytelling. 

This wide-ranging literary appetite has shaped the way he approaches every page he writes, blending elements of suspense, intellect, and heart across his body of work.

Academically, Derl Wood holds a Bachelor of Education, a Certificate in Teaching English, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction—credentials that reflect his dedication to both learning and empowering others through education. Originally from Jamaica, Derl now lives in Alabama and considers Chicago his favorite city in the United States.
